The Leader of Torfaen Council, Councillor Anthony Hunt, said:
It is with great sadness that we receive the news of the death of the Duke of Edinburgh.
Prince Philip was an extraordinary man who lived an extraordinary life; a life of public service and extraordinary commitment and devotion to the Queen.
On behalf of Torfaen Council I will send our deepest condolences to Her Majesty The Queen and her family.
The flags outside Civic Centre have been lowered to half-mast and the council will open a book of condolence in the Civic Centre, Pontypool from Monday morning. The book will be open from 9am until 5pm, Monday to Friday, and will remain open until 5pm on the day following the funeral.
Due to current Covid-19 regulations, we ask that people bring their own pens to sign the book and follow social distancing and wear face coverings while queueing to sign.
The Royal Family are opening an electronic book of condolence which will open shortly at www.royal.gov.uk.”
