National Play Day 2020 success

Despite the ongoing pandemic, this year’s Torfaen Play Service National Play Day campaign was a huge success.
Torfaen Play worked in partnership with Pontypool Community Council to provide 280 play packs for families at Pontypool Park and Cwmbran Community Council also provided play resource packs from their offices in Old Cwmbran.
The National Play Day social media campaign engaged with thousands of people, with play memories from the public and partner organisations being shared online throughout the day.
Children at Torfaen childcare hubs for key workers also celebrated the day by taking part in obstacle courses, art competitions as well as socially distanced parades for the “make some noise” campaign.
Councillor Fiona Cross, Executive Member for Children, Families and Communities said:
In these unprecedented times it’s even more important that children have the opportunity to play. Play is an integral part of a child’s development. It can help the development of language, creativity and social skills.
Due to the Play Service being unable to provide the usual play events the play packs have provided various home play activities which has been welcomed by children and parents.
Torfaen Play Service Manager, Julian Davenne said:
Although we were unable to hold any large scale community events this year, the team still engaged with the public through various mechanisms to promote the importance of play. The “make some noise for play” campaign went down a treat and we would like to thank the families who shared their “make some noise” videos online.
We would like to thank everyone in their continued support in promoting the importance of play for children in Torfaen.
