Written by Dan Williams on 23rd November 2021
An event to celebrate and support carers in Torfaen is being organised to mark Carers’ Rights Day this week.
This year’s Carers Rights Day focuses on raising awareness of the rights of unpaid carers.
Carers, as well as their cared for, are invited to attend Ty Glas y Dorlan in Thornhill, between 11am – 3pm on Thursday November 25, where there will be lots of help and information, as well as live entertainment.
Torfaen Executive Member for Adult Services and Housing, Councillor David Daniels, said,
This Carers Rights Day, we want to empower carers with information and support, so they can feel confident asking for what they need.
Whether you are a new carer or have been caring for someone for a while, we believe that it is important that you understand your rights and are able to access the support that is available to you as soon as you need it.
The event is being supported by local bands Pashy Pops and The Bois Y Bryn Sea Shanty Choir, as well as the following support services:
- Pobl
- Carers Trust South East Wales
- Hafan Cymru
- Qualia Law
- Re-engage Wales
- Digital Communities Wales
- Natures Essence
- Age Connects
- Disability Advice Project (DAP)
- TCBC Community Connectors
- Torfaen Leisure Trust = Sporting Memories
- Bron Afon
- Connect 5 Mental Health & Wellbeing
The event will be a first opportunity to see inside the new wellbeing hub, which is fully accessible for people with disabilities and due to open early next year.
If you are caring for someone and are looking for information for carers or want to find out more about your rights, then confirm your attendance by emailing [email protected] or calling 07966 301108.
